According to the newnumbers released by the U.S. Census Bureau, Rockingham County leads NorthCarolina in Divorce, with a rate of 15 percent.

That’s more than 4percent higher than the national average of 10.7 percent. According to thestatistics four percent of Rockingham County residents are separated, and only53 percent of residents are married.

Many residents pointedto the struggling economy, and especially the loss of textile jobs, as beingthe main culprit behind the rise in divorces. Pastor William Duke, of the FirstBaptist Church in Reidsville, said the loss of jobs creates stress inmarriages. Unemployment can threaten traditional roles, especially for men,said Duke.

The second highest onthe list is Randolph County, with a 12 percent divorce rate. Guilford andDavidson counties followed with 11 percent.
