Marriages in which men contribute to housework more stable, study says

by Administrator 12. May 2010 06:59

When men contribute to housework, shopping, and childcare, their marriage is far more likely to be stable and remain so, a recent academic study claims.

“The results suggest that the risk of divorce among working mothers, while greater, is substantially reduced when fathers contribute more to housework and childcare," said Wendy Sigle-Rushton, a senior lecturer at the London School of Economics.

“That men’s failure to contribute to housework can increase the risk of divorce may seem surprising, given that all of the families in my sample had fairly young children over the time period they are followed and a divorce would have had substantial economic consequences and would not have relieved most mothers of housework and childcare responsibilities,” she continued.

The risk of divorce in a situation where the woman returns to the workplace while her husband does not help in the housework increases 97 percent, according to the report.

“This study underscores the importance of taking into account relationships between’s men’s behaviour and marital stability. In economic and sociological research, there has been too great an emphasis on women’s paid work and not enough attention given to the division of unpaid work,” said Sigle-Rushton.

Charlie Sheen Relinquishes Custody of Children

by Administrator 7. May 2010 02:37

Actor Charlie Sheen has surrendered legal custody of his two children to his ex-wife Denise Richards.

The star of 'Two and A Half Men' has been locked in a bitter custody battle with his actress ex-wife since divorcing in 2006. Richards has been seeking full custody of the couple's two children, six year-old Sam and four year-old Lola Rose.

According to documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, both Sheen and Richards have agreed to give full legal custody of the two children to Denise Richards. Richards claims she began seeking full custody following Sheen's highly-publicised marital problems with his current wife Brooke Mueller.

Dwayne Wade Accused of Adultery

by Administrator 6. May 2010 03:42

Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade's estranged wife is claiming, in divorce filings, that the NBA star engaged in "sexual foreplay" with actress Gabrielle union in front of their two children, causing them stress and anxiety that required therapy.

Siohvaughn Wade, who has been in a divorce and custody battle with the Heat guard for several years, is also claiming that a court-appointed child representative failed to investigate charges that Wade is violent and abusive with boys, who are eight and two. In another complaint filed in Cook County Court on behalf of the children, Siohvaughn Wade claims that Gabrielle Union caused the children emotional distress by kissing Wade in front of them.

"In her roles, defendant has played sexually explicit roles, including roles as a seductress," one complaint states. "Defendant has apparently decided to take her role beyond the films and into the home of a married man, Dwayne Wade, in the presence of his two minor children."

Sandra Bullock simultaneously undergoes divorce, adoption

by Administrator 30. April 2010 07:40

Actress Sandra Bullock announced this past week that she has recently adopted a baby, while news surfaced that she has also filed for divorce.

Ms. Bullock filed for divorce from husband Jesse James last Friday in Austin, according to media reports. The couple has been married since 2005 and started the adoption process together four years ago, but separated after rumors surfaced in December of Mr. James's infidelity. The adoption went forward as planned, but with Ms. Bullock listed as the sole legal parent rather than sharing joint custody. She has adopted a baby boy, named Louis.

Divorce involving a child can become highly emotional and complex. In Ms. Bullock's unique situation, however, the adoption was settled prior to the divorce with Ms. Bullock as the sole caregiver, so child custody is not likely to be an issue in her divorce.

If you are considering or anticpating divorce, it is important to speak with an experienced family lawyer as soon as possible. Divorcing with children may involve issues of child custody, child support, alimony, and other related issues. A divorce attorney can help to ensure that your rights and interests remain protected throughout your proceeding.

Larry King prepares for eighth divorce

by Administrator 23. April 2010 07:22

Larry King, the 75-year-old CNN newscaster, is readying to divorce his seventh wife. According to his spokesman, King filed for divorce from his 50-year-old wife Shawn Southwick earlier this week.

King is seeking joint-custody of their two children. Southwick, who filed her own divorce charges minutes after King in Los Angeles, is asking for primary custody of the children.

“His major concern is the welfare of his children and beyond that he’ll have no further comment about the divorce,” Howard Rubenstein, King’s spokesman, told Reuters.

This divorce will be King's eighth, despite having only been married to seven different women. This is because he divorced, re-married, and re-divorced one of his former spouses.

Soap Star Rebecca Budig to Divorce Bachelor's Guiney

by Administrator 20. April 2010 05:24

Soap opera star Rebecca Budig, wife of former reality TV star Bob Guiney  has filed for divorce.

According to court documents obtained from Los Angeles Superior Court last Thursday, Buding filed a divorce petition, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Buding, star of the television show 'All My Children', listed September 7, 2009 as the date of separation. She has requested that the court deny Guiney spousal support. The couple have no children together.

The 38 year-old Guiney became famous after appearing as the title character in the ABC reality show 'The Bachelor'. The couple were married in July 2004, about a year after Guiney divorced his wife Estella Gardinier, who he met on the set of the reality show.

The average Raleigh divorce takes about 35 – 40 days to complete. The legal steps are fairly simple: file for divorce, deliver the complaint to your spouse through the sheriff or certified mail, and allow your attorney to work out property division and other issues. Of course, this simple process can become very complicated if there is disagreement about child custody, alimony, or other issues. To learn more about divorce in Raleigh, or to speak with an experienced Raleigh divorce lawyer, contact the Marshall & Taylor Law Firm, P.C., at 919-833-1040.
