by Administrator 26. August 2009 03:38

This August is National Child Support Awareness Month. While different states and counties are supporting the month in different ways, they all have the same goal in mind: better child support.

In many county child support agencies, there are thousands of child support cases in which there is an unknown parent who should be supporting a child. Unfortunately, most counties do not have the resources to take care of all the cases that come across their desks in the manner they would like.

Massachusetts has reported that its divorce rate fell from 2.3 divorces per thousand people in 2007 to 2.0 divorces per thousand people in 2008. The divorce rate has not been that low in over half a century.

This latest divorce rate is a low as it was in 1940. Needless to say, this is the lowest rate in the nation. However, there are still people getting divorced, and for good reason. Not every relationship can work out even in the best of times.

Standard of Living

by Administrator 19. August 2009 07:01

When a couple divorces, the court will often order alimony payments so that both parties can retain the standard of living to which they have become accustomed. Often, this means that one person will have to support the other to some degree.

The standard of living can vary greatly based on the couple's economic status during their marriage. For instance, some divorces require alimony amounting to tens of thousands of dollars a year while others may be as little as a few dollars a month.

If you need support for your standard of living, contact the Raleigh alimony lawyers of Marshall & Taylor, PC at 919-833-1040.

The offer lasts through Friday and allows parents to come forward and start making payments again without penalty. This will help clear the system to some degree. However, those parents who continue to avoid payments will likely have to serve jail time in the future.

by Administrator 11. August 2009 01:24

A Georgia man has been relieved of an obligation to pay $10,000 in child support to a child who is not his. The 50 year old man was jailed for 13 months but was released in July.

In 1989, the man was ordered to make payments, but a DNA test in 2000 proved that he was not the father. His case has been closed by the Office of Child Support Services since his release.
