Divorce and Finances

by Administrator 29. June 2009 03:54

In the current economy, divorce can be a difficult and financially straining process. Because of this, The Wall Street Journal has recommended a business approach to certain divorces.

According to the publication, many couples' assets are likely not worth cashing out right now. As such, couples should consider dividing their holdings until they can regain value. The example of taking the house instead of half a pension or 401(k) was given.

FL Child Custody Law to Change

by Administrator 24. June 2009 06:07

In Florida, child custody laws are changing in the wake of a tragedy that occurred in 2006. A woman allowed her children to spend some time with their father a few days before Christmas that year. A few hours after leaving the children with him, the mother returned to find her home ablaze with the children inside.

Now, a Florida senator has sponsored a bill to strengthen regulations on child custody cases that involve parents with violent histories. That bill was recently signed into law by the Governor, hoping to prevent situations like this from ever happening again.

Credit after Divorce

by Administrator 22. June 2009 06:05

In a divorce, everything needs to be properly divided. While most people think of all the assets and property the couple has, it is important to remember that debt must also be divided.

When you divide your debt, however, you should remember that creditors may view any joint debt as the responsibility of both parties. This means that if your former spouse does not make payments, you could be stuck with them.

by Administrator 17. June 2009 03:44

Georgia's Supreme Court overturned a ruling on Monday stating that a divorced father's children could not be exposed to any of his homosexual acquaintances.

The court found no evidence to show that those acquaintances behaved inappropriately in front of the children. As such the visitation rights have been changed to avoid arbitrary discrimination.

Divorce Down in Recession

by Administrator 15. June 2009 03:45

Because divorce can be financially difficult, many couples are staying together. While in some cases, this means that they are trying harder to work through their marital problems, it also means that many couples are staying together when they shouldn't be.

In some cases, people simply cannot live with each other. When those couples stay together for monetary reasons, they are hurting themselve, and in some cases putting themselves in physical danger. If a divorce is necessary, it should be undertaken.
